I went to an estate sale. A lady had passed away and the family was selling off most of her possessions. As I walked through the house, it felt like her entire life was up for sale; all her cherished items, clothes, trinkets, valuables, household furniture, appliances--her life displayed on the estate market table to whoever wanted to buy.
But then we will all leave behind every bit of our earthly possessions-- the small things and the things that meant so much to us. Death will separate us from it all. Not one item will we take with us, not one penny, not the clothes we are buried in, in fact not even our dead body will we take to the other side. ALL our things of earth we will leave to others to do with as they please; to keep or to sell or to give away. As Solomon said “Yea, I hated all my labor which I had taken under the sun: because I should leave it unto the man that shall be after me. And who knows whether he shall be a wise man or a fool? yet shall he have rule over all my labor wherein I have labored”Eccl 2:18-19.
Only your soul will pass over into eternity at death. And where it passes to depends on what you do with Christ in this life. Believe on Him and Paradise is yours. Reject Him and torments will be your lot. A wise person will choose Christ and His kingdom. A fool won’t. Be wise. Your life under the sun is setting with each passing day.
