The residents of Stone Brooke Suites and their family members received unwelcomed news last week with the announcement that the assisted living facility would be permanently closing Sept. 1.
The facility has been open for more than two decades and currently has 19 residents and employees 12 associates. Stone Brooke has 43 private suites, which means more than half of the facility is empty.
An email received June 22 from Amy Abel, Director of Communications for Community Health Services of Georgia, states Stone Brooke has struggled to sustain operational viability on a long-term basis.
“Attempts to redesign and realign senior living operations in the hopes of achieving stability have unfortunately fallen short. This has been compounded by the impact of the pandemic, and it has led to the difficult decision to close Stone Brooke Suites Senior living as of Sept. 1,” Abel stated.
The statement said the associates were informed the same day as the residents. She said the goal of the Stone Brooke team is to support the associates in finding employment opportunities and to assist residents and their families in finding suitable living arrangements to meet their needs.
“Please know that this decision was not made lightly, and Stone Brooke Suites remain committed to assisting all parties involved as we work through the transition period in the weeks ahead. It has been an honor and privilege to serve our friends and neighbors these past two decades, and we want to extend our sincerest thanks to the Gray community for its support over the years,” the email concluded.
