A Very Crafty Christmas kicks off Nov. 18

HOLIDAYS ON THE WAY

A Very Crafty Christmas will take place this year on Nov. 18 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Scout Center, located behind the Lions Club Fairgrounds at 401 Highway 18 in Gray, getting everyone in the holiday spirit with crafts.

Delphia Moughon, the coordinator for A Very Crafty Christmas, said she moved to Jones County when she met her husband, but her daughter, Maggie Renner, has lived in Jones County her entire life. She said they have been in Jones County at least 40 years, so they know the area pretty well.

“I like that Jones County is small. Anywhere you go you will run into someone you know, and the community is connected,” she said. “The community comes together, and we all support each other. It’s a great place to raise a family.”

She said she’s excited for A Very Crafty Christmas this year and is happy to see it grow so much. She said it’s a lot of fun and there is something for everyone at the event.

“A Very Crafty Christmas started four years ago at my home with just a group of family, friends and coworkers. We wanted to do a little party with crafts we had made, and it grew from there. We had maybe 12 crafters that year, and everyone wanted to do it again next year, so now it’s turned into something for the entire community,” Moughon said.

Renner said her favorite part of A Very Crafty Christmas is being able to see everyone who comes out. She said people really have a great time and it has grown each year. She said everyone will enjoy the event.

“We started this, because of COVID-19. Everyone was feeling down at the time and there was nothing to do, so it was just a bright spot in a really bad time,” the daughter said. “It was all outside, so everyone could maintain distance.”

Moughon said the event has been at the Scout Center the past few years, so they have been fortunate enough to keep it there this year. She said last year they had 60 vendors, two food trucks, sweets, and lots of crafts. She said there will be 60 vendors again this year.

“It’s a day where people can experience something local. There are other events like this that are nice, but there are huge crowds, and you have to park far away. Plus, these are local crafters and vendors here. This gives more local crafters a chance to show off what they do,” she said.

The coordinator said there will be woodworking, toys, doll houses, honey, jewelry, cakes, sewing, embroidery, t-shirts, arrangements, wreaths, door hangers, birdhouses, nativity scenes, homemade breads, homemade jams and jellies, homemade soaps, paintings, and more at the event. She said people should come out and see what they have.

“Everyone should come out to A Very Crafty Christmas, because it will be a lot of fun,” Moughon said. “It kicks off the holiday season and gets you in the Christmas spirit since it’s the Saturday before Thanksgiving. We will have lots of decorating items and lots of gift ideas. Just come out and have a good time.”
