Support sought to raise children after tragic loss

A GoFundMe page has been set up for the members of a Jones County family who needs help following a series of events beyond their control. The two children of a suicide victim are the ones paying the consequences for the horrific events that took place March 27.

New athletic director named at BOE meeting

The final Board of Education meeting of 2022 ended with the hiring of a new athletic director for the district. The unanimous vote to hire Chad Alligood as the Athletic Director for the Jones County School System filled the vacancy left by the previous director, Barry Veal.

Husband sentenced to 60 years for wife’s death

Negotiated pleas are by definition a compromise between the state and the defendant, which means neither side gets everything they want. Troy Newton Scarborough entered a guilty plea in Jones County Superior Court Dec. 15 and received a sentence of 60 years to serve in prison.

American Legion celebrates fund-raising efforts

American Legion Post 142 celebrated its members and their fundraising efforts at their annual Christmas Party held at Chevy’s Pizza. The Dec. 14 party was attended by 34 members, spouses and friends.
