A 4-1 loss last week at Union Grove did leave a degree of disappointment for the Lady Greyhounds, as it eliminated hopes of being able to win a region title.
But by taking care of business in Thursday’s 11-3 win against Woodland, Jones County began this week with much to play for, as the Lady Hounds needed wins against Stockbridge and Ola and finish second in the region, therefore having home field in next week’s opening round of the state tournament. A loss would put JCHS as the region’s third seed and on the road to begin the postseason.
wild pitch with another Lady Hounds run coming via Myah Briscoe driving in Genna Maki.
“You have to make your adjustments and wait for good pitches to hit,” Burt said. “We did a good job of manufacturing runs, and that’s our brand of softball. When we do that, we’ll be successful.”
JCHS poured it on even more an inning later when Sydney Hawkins’ sac fly drove in Ella Jenkins before Moore tripled and was singled in by Harris, who scored on a Sargent hit. That gave JCHS more of an advantage, one they built on with three fifth-inning runs to win on the mercy rule in a game that also saw Kaleigh Scarborough get the start at pitcher before giving way to Ensley Barnes.
