A dedicated group of Christians is starting their biggest event of the year Saturday, reading through the entire Bible.
The “Read Thru the Bible” event is scheduled to take place Oct. 11-18, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the gazebo at Carol’s Park and everyone is invited to participate.
For those not familiar, Carol’s Park is located directly behind the Jones County Courthouse.
The Bible reading is sponsored by KBOMIN Ministries. The founder and president of the ministry, Debra Hall said this will be the 13th year for the event, during which the entire Bible is read aloud by volunteers.
“This is our biggest event due to the time involved. We really need the community to come together for this,” she said.
Hall said the KBOMIN team reads when no one else is there. She said readers are asked to read in 15-minute segments. They can sign up in advance or just walk up during the reading.
“It usually works out well,” she said.
Hall described the ministry as a nondenominational group of believers who love the lord, understands the importance of prayer and the power of scripture. She said it is important to understand that God has a reason for the rules he asks to be followed.
“That reason is to protect us. The older I get, the more I understand that,” she said.
Hall said those rules can sometime seem harsh but there is always love behind it.
The founder said the reading is not just an action done by volunteers, but an experience that changes lives. The reading starts at Genesis 1:1 and ends with the last verse of Revelations.
“This is always quite an experience. We have had people traveling who stop to join us and people who are leaving court,” she said. “We want to come together as the Body of Christ. What people don’t realize is this is fun.”
Hall said all ages are invited to read and there is also the opportunity to ask for prayer. She said all churches are welcome. She also said no one should worry about not being able to pronounce some of the words.
“We all just do our best, and if you don’t want to read, you are welcome to come and listen.”
Hall said they had approximately 90 different readers last year. Many read on several different days while others only did the one time 15-minute interval, which is all they ask of participants.
“Many people read more than 15 minutes and others read for thirty minutes to an hour,” she said. “Some spend most of their day with us and jump in whenever there is a break in participation.”
KBOMINis an acronym forKingdom Building Outreach Ministries Intercessory Network.
Hall said said it is a nonprofit ministry based in Jones County and is comprised of Bible believing Christ followers from various churches and backgrounds.
“ We are not a church, nor are we in competition with any church. We are an outreach ministry, and our purpose is exactly what each word in our name says,” she said. “The KBOMIN Team is made up of men, women, and youth who love the Lord. We endeavor to operate in obedience to the work God has called us to complete.”
Hall said KBOMIN has hosted conferences, prayer events, public Bible readings, and other events for over a decade, and will continue to organize community events designed to minister to the Body of Christ in Jones County and the surrounding areas.
“These events are held outside because we are not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ,” she said. “The best way to describe this event is, it’s a blessing.”
