Before Tuesday’s softball action against Stockbridge, the Lady Greyhounds recognized their three seniors – Cate Downey, Ella Jenkins, and Addy Deason.
It didn’t take long for all three to help lead a dominant win over the Tigers.
“On senior night, to honor your seniors and then take care of business, that’s always a good thing,” Lady Greyhounds head coach Tripp Burt said.
Jones County closed out its final region home game in style, routing Stockbridge 22-1 before an 8-0 loss to region-leading Ola later in the week tied the Lady Hounds for second in the region with Union Grove. As a result of losing the tiebreaker, Jones County begins the postseason on the road next week at Cambridge, the second seed from Region 6-AAAA.
Tuesday’s big win against Stockbridge helped JCHS to a record of 19-5 overall and 13-3 in the region. The Lady Greyhounds wasted little time in taking over from the start, pushing five runs across in the first and keeping going and going in the second with 17 more being pushed across the plate. Downey held the Tigers to a run and a hit. Normally a player that has someone hit for her when pitching, Downey also hit for herself against Stockbridge, and a basesclearing double in the first after the other two JCHS seniors, Deason and Jenkins drew walks to help bring in runs got Jones County going on a big offensive day.
“The seniors all came in and played well and gave us some really big contributions,” Burt said.
