The following information is gleaned from incident reports, which are public record, from the Jones County Sheriff’s Department and Gray Police Department Nov. 27 – Dec. 1, 2025.
Nov. 27
Passenger fled the scene
Dep. Elliot conducted a traffic stop on GA Hwy. 22 on a vehicle for a nonfunctioning passenger side headlamp. The vehicle came to a stop, and as the deputy approached the vehicle the male passenger in the vehicle jumped out and fled on foot. Elliot did not engage in a foot pursuit of the male. Once the deputy made contact with the female driver, he asked her why the passenger fled the scene. The female driver replied “probably because of that” pointing at a small baggie of marijuana that was located in the handle of the passenger side door. As the deputy was conducting the traffic stop, the male passenger returned to the scene. Elliot instructed the male subject to wait at the rear of the vehicle until another deputy arrived. While waiting on Dep.
Sullivan to arrive on scene, the male spontaneously advised the reason he ran was because he was scared. The male passenger went on to explain that he returned to the scene because he did not want to get the female driver in trouble. Dep. Sullivan arrived on scene and immediately placed the male subject in handcuffs and read him his Miranda Rights.
The male subject advised he understood his rights and did not wish to speak any further to the deputy. The deputies ran the male passenger’s information through the GCIC/NCIC/DOL system, and it came back to show an unverified warrant out of Macon/Bibb County Sheriff’s Office. The male subject was transported to the Jones County LEC and booked at that time.
The warrant out of Bibb County was verified on the male. The female driver was released with a verbal warning about the head light.
Dec. 1
Speeding and suspended license
Lt. Carr was running stationary radar on Hwy. 57 when his incar Raptor Radar made a loud audible tone and displayed a speed of 69 MPH on a vehicle.
The speed limit on Hwy. 57 is 55 MPH. Carr immediately got behind the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. Carr made contact with the male driver and female passenger and advised the reason for the stop. The male driver advised the lieutenant that he was driving his wife to the doctor and was not paying attention.
Carr asked the male driver for his license and the male handed him a GA Identification Card. The male stated he thought he had an active permit in order to drive.
Carr contacted dispatch, and they advised that the male’s license was suspended all and there was no active permit for him to drive.
At that time, Carr had the male driver exit the vehicle and secured him into handcuffs and advised that he was under arrest for driving while license suspended.
The vehicle was left on the side of the road per the owner’s request and the male was transported to the Jones County LEC where he was issued citations for speeding and driving while license suspended, then turned over to jail staff for booking.
