No. 6 Lady Hounds ease past early-season foes

LADY HOUNDS HOOPS

As far as finding new Lady Greyhounds to lead the way on the offensive end, Jones County manufactured some pretty good answers last week.

The Lady Hounds rolled over both McDonough and Eagles Landing last week to start region play 2-0 before a non-region 75-58 victory against Josey on Saturday, improving to 4-1 overall.

Kamiyah Adams scored 17 points to lead the way in Tuesday’s 73-26 win against McDonough, and she followed that up with 21 points against Josey.

JCHS took control quickly against McDonough, going off to the races after a flurry of early fast-break points, leading 22-10 after a quarter and 47-13 at halftime. With such a big margin of victory, multiple Lady Greyhounds played a key part.

Not only did Yariah Webb and Aubrey Norris each pull down five rebounds, but Desirae Dumas and Liberty Pennamon added 12 and 10 points.

“We watched film on them. We knew we could apply pressure and apply tempo the way we wanted to,” Lady Greyhounds head coach Takeo Gray said. “We wanted to set the tone to our pace. We have some athletic guards, so we’ll use that to our strength.”

Friday’s 72-44 win against Eagles Landing moved the Lady Hounds’ region record to 2-0, led by 16 points by both Aubrey Norris and Dumas and 14 by Adams. That was followed by Jones County staying sharp in a non-region test against Josey. Jones County actually trailed 17-15 after a quarter before steadily taking over, pulling ahead 35-30 at halftime and 57-47 after three quarters. Jones County found long-range success in Saturday’s win with seven three-pointers, four a piece by Aubrey Norris, Destinee Dumas, and Autumn Coleman. Norris and Desirae Dumas led JCHS in the paint with 11 and 7 rebounds with 21 points also coming from Norris.
