The following information is gleaned from incident reports, which are public record, from the Jones County Sheriff’s Department and Gray Police Department Dec. 26-27, 2025.
Dec. 26
Discharge of firearm
Dep. Shurley was dispatched to a residence in the area of Hwy. 18 East in reference to gunshots. Shurley arrived at the address of the complainant and met with the subject. The complainant advised the deputy that he has spoken to the subjects shooting in the direction of his home and advised them that whether they were being safe or not, he was calling law enforcement to come out and assess the situation. Shurley then went to the residence the shooting was coming from and met with the homeowner and several family and friends. The homeowner stated that they were shooting safely, but once the complainant addressed their concern, they decided to move their targets. The homeowner stated that she did not want to cause problems with their neighbors. Shurley checked the targets they were shooting and observed it was safe, so they were legally allowed to shoot. All appeared to be safe and ok.
Motor vehicle accident
Dep. Shurley was dispatched to Joycliff Road at the intersection of New Clinton Road in reference to a motor vehicle accident. During the accident investigation, Shurley found that the male driver at fault had a suspended driver’s license. After the deputy completed the investigation and spoke to all parties, the male driver was handcuffed and transported to the Jones County jail where he was issued citations for driving on a suspended license, then turned over to jail staff.
Theft
Dep. Patterson was dispatched to a residence on Mathis Road in regards to a theft. Once on scene, Patterson met with the male complainant that advised he was going through his tools in his work truck and noticed one of the back tool doors was not locked and there werecompanytoolsmissing. The complainant advised the deputy there was a Milwaukee Bandsaw, $400 in value and three batteries estimated to be worth $100 a piece was missing. The complainant advised he was new to the area and unsure of who may have stolen the tools. Patterson took the information and advised the male to keep his tools locked up and get some cameras for his home.
