Konner Smith Murray of Gray was recently accepted to the Mercer University School of Medicine (MUSM) Primary Care Accelerated Track (ACT) Program, announced MUSM Dean Jean Sumner, M.D., FACP.
One of the first programs of its kind in the country, Mercer’s Primary Care ACT Program allows students interested in a career in family medicine, general internal medicine or pediatrics to complete their medical school coursework in an accelerated three-year program of study.
Scholars are also accepted into a residency program at one of MUSM’s partner hospitals.
Scholarships are awarded to highly qualified students upon completion of their first year of medical school and cover tuition for the second and third years.
These students must be in good academic standing and have a strong desire to practice primary care in a rural area.
Murray will graduate medical school in 2026, then join the pediatrics residency at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah. After residency, she plans to return to rural middle Georgia.
“Middle Georgia has always been my home,” she said. “I am hopeful for the opportunity to go back and practice medicine in the community that has done so much for me. It truly takes a village, and I cannot imagine having a better one.”
“I would like to thank my parents and grandparents for believing in me no matter what and being the most supportive and loving family,” said Murray.
Konner is the daughter of Ken and Kelly Smith and wife of Reid Murray.
