Georgia School Superintendent Richard Woods came to Jones County to personally present Literacy Leader and Math Leader awards to three elementary and one middle school last week.
Jones County School Superintendent Dr. Jessica Graves introduced Woods at the March 2 event that was held at Gray Station Middle School.
“This would not be possible without the hard work of our educators,” she said.
Woods said the presentations were the fun part of his job.
“I’m just here to recognize the hard work you have done,” he said.
The state school superintendent said the awards were in the form of ribbons and banners.
Dames Ferry Elementary was awarded a literacy banner for a 5.1-point increase in both third and fourth grades.
Gray Elementary received a banner for having a 6.8-point increase in third grade and 10 points in fourth grade.
Mattie Wells Elementary had a 16.1point increase.
Gray Station Middle School was recognized for a 97 percent passing rate in math.
Woods said 400 schools in the state received literacy and math leader awards this year.
Graves gave a thank you to the teams that made the award events possible.
“We want to make sure all our children succeed, and we celebrate the excellence of the Jones County School System,” she said.
