–George Sheffield “And their words seemed to them as idle tales, and they believed them not” (Lk 24:11) The women went to the tomb that first Easter morning to finish the Jewish burial process. They found the tomb empty. Angels told them Jesus is risen.
And the angels told them to go tell the disciples. As the women ran to tell, they ran right into Jesus, risen and glorified. They clung to Him and worshipped Him, and He too tells them go tell the disciples.
So they did. They told all the disciples and the disciples looked at them like they were nuts. To these guys, what the women said were just fairytales, and they didn’t believe the word of the women. Angels in shiny suits, stone rolled away, no guards, empty tomb, Jesus walking around and talking--just idle tales. They brushed off the women’s testimony of a resurrected Jesus.
Like the women, we who are born again, the bride of Christ, are commissioned to go and tell. To share our testimony of the risen Lord Jesus. And when we do, some will look at us as if we have lost our minds and consider what we say to be just a foolish--idle--tale.
But tell anyway. Share the good news that He Is Risen. Because some will believe!
