The following information is gleaned from incident reports, which are public record, from the Jones County Sheriff’s Department and Gray Police Department April 4-7, 2026
April 6
Warrant secured and served
Officer Josey responded to a local business in reference to a previous shoplifting. Upon arrival, Josey made contact with a business employee that advised a male subject came into the business on April 3 and was seen on surveillance footage taking items. The footage showed the male take three of five items that was in a package and place the three items in his right front pocket. The male is then seen squatting down to the ground and sliding the opened package underneath one of the store shelves. The footage then shows the male subject going to the counter and purchase some other items and used his card showing all his information when paying for those items. This gave the identity of the male subject. The total of the stolen merchandise was $19.99 plus tax for a total of $21.39. The store employee provided a receipt of what was purchased by the male subject, as well as showing the total of the stolen merchandise. A DVD of the surveillance footage for evidence was obtained from the business employee. Officer Josey then secured a warrant for theft by shoplifting by a Magistrate Judge. Once the officer received the warrant, he advised the male subject to turn himself in at the Jones County Sheriff’s Office. A short time later, the male subject advised that he was at the Jones County Sheriff’s Office. Josey made contact with the male and the warrant was served to the subject, then turned over to jail staff for booking.
April 9
Stolen kids chair
Officer Holloway was dispatched to a local business in reference to a theft by shoplifting. While Holloway was on the way to the scene, dispatch advised that the offenders were a male and female subject, the description of the clothes they were wearing and advised they were outside the business at that time sitting at the tables.
When Holloway arrived at the business, he made contact with the assistant manager. Capt.
Hunnicutt arrived on scene and started speaking to the male and female subjects. The assistant manager advised Holloway the offenders took a pink kid’s camping chair without paying for it. The chair was valued at $13.98. Officer Holloway then spoke to the two subjects, and they told him they were just sitting there waiting on a ride.
While speaking to the subjects, Holloway could see the pink chair in their cart covered up by other items. When the officer asked about the chair, the female subject immediately stood up and stated that she would go back inside and pay for it. Holloway advised the female that once she walked out of the business without paying for the item, it was already considered stolen.
The female offender stated that the male subject had nothing to do with taking the chair and she would accept full responsibility.
Holloway then placed the female in handcuffs. The assistant manager provided the officer with a DVD copy of the video surveillance footage of the theft.
Officer Holloway then issued both the male subject and female offender a trespass notice and advised them not to return to the business in the future. At that time, the female offender was transported to the Jones County LEC and was issued a warrant for theft by shoplifting.
