The following information is gleaned from incident reports, which are public record, from the Jones County Sheriff’s Department and Gray Police Department April 30 – May 5, 2026
April 30
Two tickets in two weeks
Sgt. Humphries was patrolling the area of Hwy. 49 in Jones County when he received a Flock Camera alert on a vehicle for expired registration. Humphries checked the tag number from the alert and ran the tag number through the GCIC system. The check came back to show the registration had expired as of Jan. 2026. The Sergeant located the vehicle while it was making a turn onto Chapman Rd. from Hwy. 49. At that time, Humphries conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and made contact with the female driver. The Sergeant advised the female driver the reason she was stopped, and the female stated she was aware of the suspended registration, that she had received a ticket last week for the same thing. Humphries then obtained the female driver’s license and ran them through the GCIC system. That check came back to show that the female’s license had been suspended on April 27, 2026, for failure to appear. Humphries also discovered that the female had received a warning on Feb. 7, 2026, for the expired registration and a citation for the expired registration on April 4, 2026. Humphries issued the female driver a citation for driving with a suspended license and expired registration, then placed her under arrest for driving with a suspended license.
A friend of the female was allowed to pick up her vehicle and Humphries transported the driver to the LEC where she was turned over to jail staff.
Spike strips deployed
Dep. Coley initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for dragging its rear bumper on the roadway while driving through Haddock on Hwy. 22 near Etheridge Rd. Coley activated her emergency lights and went around two vehicles in an attempt to stop the vehicle. The driver failed to yield and continued heading towards Baldwin County. The deputy advised Dispatch that she was in pursuit of a vehicle. During the chase, the driver reached speeds between 105 – 115 MPH.
Coley maintained the pursuit while Dispatch notified Baldwin County to deploy spike strips to try and stop the vehicle. During the chase, the driver began swerving into oncoming traffic creating a hazard for other motorists.
Coley advised Dispatch that she was passing Browns Crossing and the vehicle was driving recklessly in the opposite lane of traffic. Suddenly, the driver swerved back into her lane of traffic and ran off the roadway just before Lawrence Rd. in Baldwin County. The vehicle struck multiple trees and came to rest in a cattle fence. Dep. Schubert was also involved in the chase and he and Coley came to a stop and exited their patrol vehicle and approached the driver with weapons drawn due to the unknown threat of the driver. The female driver was instructed to place her hands on the steering wheel, and once the deputies saw she complied, they holstered their weapons and started to render aid. The vehicle came to rest in a wooded area. Coley accessed the rear of the vehicle and observed the female driver was conscious, however, the air bags were deployed. While the deputy was assisting the female driver, Coley asked the subject why she had driven off the road. The female told the deputy she just wanted to die. At that time, Coley noticed smoke coming from the vehicle and advised the female driver she needed to exit the vehicle through the rear seat area. The deputy helped the female as she climbed in the rear of the vehicle and was able to get out. Coley requested EMS to the scene to evaluate the driver. EMS and Baldwin County units arrived on scene. Coley informed EMS of the statement the driver made to her so they could conduct a thorough assessment. Dispatch then notified the deputy that the female had a suspended driver’s license. Once the female driver was cleared by EMS, Dep. Schubert placed her in handcuffs, put her inside Dep. Coley’s vehicle and transported her to the Sheriff’s Office. The female driver was given citations for vehicle or load dragging on highway, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane and driving on a suspended license. In addition to the citations, a warrant was executed for felony fleeing and attempting to elude a law enforcement officer. The female signed her copies of the warrant and citations.

Marijuana exposure
Dep. Schubert was dispatched to a local residence in reference to a neighbor in the area smoking marijuana. The deputy made contact with the complainant and was told the neighbor would frequently smoke marijuana outside and the smell was concerning because their grandchildren are often over and does not want them exposed to it. Schubert informed the complainant he would notify the drug investigation unit of the information.
