Coach Pitch All-Stars win state title
There were elements of accomplishment handed out during the past few weeks to Jones County’s Coach Pitch All Stars in the district and sectional tournaments, but there was something missing both of those times — a tournament title.
In each occasion, Dudley Little League prevailed, celebrating at Jones County’s expense.
But with the stakes at their highest, Jones County delivered.
At the State Little League Coach Pitch Tournament over the weekend in Augusta, Jones County captured a state championship with an 18-8 win on Sunday against Oconee County. Jones County had the luxury of rest of Sunday after a satisfying win at the expense of their nemesis.
After opening Saturday by beating Franklin County 18-3, Jones County topped Dudley in a 14-13 thriller. That moved Jones County to Sunday afternoon’s title game as they awaited Sunday’s earlier game, where Oconee County beat Dudley.
The more-rested Jones County all-stars took advantage of facing a team coming off a short time turnaround, winning 18-8 to win a state title.
