Jack was born August 2, 1941, in Telfair County, Georgia, to the late Alex “Boy” Bass, and the late Lizzie Selph Bass. As a young man along with two of his siblings, he moved to Macon. He worked in sales and customer service in several different businesses including sewing machine salesman, insurance salesman, and a general manager for Public Safety Oil Company. Jack was an avid fisherman and that passion led to his lifelong occupation of owning seafood markets. He and his brother, Hilton, founded Bass Brothers Wholesale and Millerfield Seafood, which became Eastside Seafood. After retiring, he devoted all his time to his grandchildren, operated an ice cream truck (which provided an endless supply of ice cream to the grandchildren and their friends), rode a riding lawn mower any chance he got, never missed an opportunity to watch the Georgia Bulldawgs, all while working for the Jones County News delivering the newspaper. In his later years, he enjoyed dancing and visiting friends at the Old Clinton Opry and other dance venues.
Jack was lucky to have had three women love him. His first wife Nancy, the love of his life and the mother of his children by love Stephanie, Chip and Cindy and later together they had Alex. She predeceased him in 1977. He was then loved for over 30 years by his faithful companion, Nina, who also predeceased him.
In his later years, he met and married Betty who danced into his life and also predeceased him.
Jack is preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Trey Brown; and his siblings, Dan, Cliff, Dewey, Hilton, Drussie Lee, Clydie, and Corinne.
Jack is survived by his son, Alex Bass (Anna) of Gray, GA; daughter, Stephanie Parker (Jim) of Gray, GA; son, Chip Womack of Eastman, GA; daughter, Cindy Brown of Temple, GA; daughter, Kris Mallory (Patrick) of Macon, GA; grandchildren, Hunter Bass (Breanna), Maitland Bass, Sierra Weaver (Kyle), Ashley Brown, and Blake Driscoll (Nate); great-grandchildren, Beau, Bellamy, Jayden, Aubrey and Kasen; several nieces and nephews; and a host of lifelong friends and customers.
