Letters to the Editor

Dear Editor,

I would like to clarify a statement in the July 23 edition of the Jones County News regarding the July 13 Jones County Board of Education meeting. While speaking to the Board regarding LifeWise Academy, Jones County News states that I made the statement that the program was offered “in public schools”. The video recording of me addressing the Board shows that my statement was “Lifewise provides Bible education for public school students during school hours” not “in public schools” .

LifeWise Academy provides Bible education for public school students during school hours through a legal framework known as released-time religious instruction. Under this framework, parents provide written permission for their child(ren) to participate.

The program is privately funded through local (and other) donations. The instruction takes place off school property.

If you are interested in supporting this program, please donate via: lifewise.org/ program/1303150-jones-county-schools.

The Jones County LifeWise program is in the Launch Phase and is actively searching for a program director.

Interested parties may apply through the link listed above.

Thank you, Lynn and Rachel Dugger Jones County LifeWise Steering Committee
