The Lady Greyhounds are moving on to the Round of 16.
Cushioned by clutch hitting in the earlier innings and a complete-game from freshman pitcher Makalyn Williams, Jones County outlasted Madison County 5-2 on Thursday in the third game of the best-of-three series in the first round of the GHSA Class AAAAA state tournament.
The Lady Hounds will now move on to the round of 16 on Wednesday and Thursday, if needed at Central Carrollton, where the winner will advance to the state Elite 8 in Columbus.
Jones County, one of two teams from its region to make it past the first round, is seeded 12th overall with Central Carrollton fifth.
