CJ’s Cards and Collectibles in downtown Milledgeville is open for business for those who enjoy collecting items for various fandoms.
The shop is located at 136 South Wayne Street in Milledgeville, and is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Chris Jameson, the shop owner, said he was born in Massachusetts and moved to New Hampshire right before he was a teenager. He said he moved to Milledgeville due to his wife’s work.
“I like that there’s no snow here. It’s really just a great community,” he said. “Milledgeville is a great little town. It’s not big or small, it’s just perfect.”
Jameson said he enjoys running his shop downtown, and he hopes to see new faces come in the door. He enjoys seeing his customers.
“We do sports cards, sports memorabilia, movie memorabilia, trading card games such as Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Magic the Gathering, and just a little bit of everything. These are things I loved growing up. As an adult, it was able to become a shop and not just a hobby,” he said.
The shop owner said he began watching professional sports again in 2012, and he started collecting sports memorabilia. He said he began selling the items online, then movie memorabilia. He said when he moved to Georgia, he needed something to do, so he decided to try opening up his shop.
“We moved here just as COVID-19 hit, and it was horrible,” he said. “After the first year of COVID-19 when things started opening back up, that’s when I decided to open it. I decided if I can survive now, I can survive anything. Here we are still a year later.”
He said CJ’s Cards and Collectibles is important for Milledgeville, because it brings something different to the downtown area. He said everything else downtown is restaurants and clothing boutiques, and he’s bringing something unique to the scene.
“We’re doing Magic the Gathering tournaments here now, too. On Saturday’s, we’ve held a few tournaments. We’re partnering up with Dungeons and Daiquiris to do Friday Night Magic sometimes also. We start at noon on Saturday’s and go until it’s done,” he said.
Jameson said they have a steady community of people in Milledgeville who play Magic the Gathering, but he’d like more people to join so they can join the Wizards Play Network.
The shop owner said he sells play card packs, sports cards, sports memorabilia such as signed jerseys and mini helmets, 80s horror items such as posters, Funkos of Marvel characters and Star Wars characters, and more. He said his pricing is reasonable and affordable, and he takes cash, card, Venmo, and PayPal.
“I enjoy the customer interaction here. They come in here just to chat sometimes,” Jameson said. “I appreciate that, because they’re taking time out of their day to see me. It doesn’t matter if they’re buying something or not. That’s how great this community is.”
