Friends of the Library plans next used book sale

The Jones County Friends of the Library has a used book sale every second Saturday of the month, and they want to remind people their next used book sale will be June 11.

Sarah Hancock, president of the Jones County Friends of the Library, said they are still located at the Jones County Pre-K in building E. The Jones County Pre-K is located at 273 Railroad St. in Gray.

“We’ve been having our sale every second Saturday, and so far it’s been going great. It’s been more than what we’ve expected,” she said. “Everyone is really pleased with the new location of Friends of the Library since we’re more spread out. They can see what we have better.”

She said residents seem to have gotten used to the new location, and the first sale they had in the new building was tremendous. She said she was afraid people wouldn’t be able to find them in building E at the Pre-K, but she said it’s been fine.

“All of our money goes to the Jones County Public Library, and they spend it on things they need, such as new books. These sales also help people to read. We know electronic books are around, but a lot of people enjoy just having a real book in their hands,” Hancock said.

The president said they enjoy being able to help the library with the funds they collect through the book sales. She said the library has made great new improvements recently, and they always need extra money for new purchases. She said Friends of the Library has given the Jones County Public Library over $17,000 since they started the book sales six years ago.

“The books are inexpensive, and many of the books are like brand new. Why not come get something to read? We have some books that are even autographed. All books are free going up to $1, so stop by at the next book sale and get some books,” she said.

Hancock said they have all kinds of genres of used books. She said they have romance, mystery, non-fiction, fiction, World War II books, Civil War books, gardening books, cookbooks, westerns, children’s books, and many more.

She said people should come out to the next sale and see what they have if they’ve never been by. She said it’s a great way to stock up on reading material for the summer.

“People should read for knowledge, and they can travel. They never have to leave home to travel through a book,” Hancock said. “You can learn so much through reading, and you’ll always need to read through life. People really enjoy finding good books here.”
