Man pleads guilty to trafficking charges

A defendant arrested in 2021 for drug trafficking charges received 10 years to serve in prison following the entry of a guilty plea in Jones County Superior court.

Arsenio Duwayne Tucker entered his plea May 26 and received a sentence of 25 years for the offense of trafficking methamphetamine or amphetamine with the first 10 years to serve. The remainder of sentence to be served on probation, and Tucker is to receive credit for time served from his Aug. 13, 2021, arrest until Feb. 25.

The defendant was indicted on charges of driving while license suspended, trafficking methamphetamine, VGCSA possession marijuana with intent to distribute and possession firearm during the commission of felony by a Jones County Grand Jury Oct. 13, 2021.

A report of Tucker’s Aug. 13, 2021, arrest by Gray Police Officer Lt. Jacob Hunnicutt states that he was patrolling a local apartment complex when he attempted to run a check on the Crown Victoria driven by Tucker.

Hunnicutt said the computer in his car timed out, and he asked GPD Officer Josh Josey to run the tag. He said the information stated that the owner of the vehicle had a suspended license and warrants out of Byron.

The lieutenant said he observed the car as it traveled down Highview Street at a high rate of speed and turned onto Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., heading toward Eatonton Highway.

Hunnicutt said he got behind the car and performed the traffic stop. He said the driver was identified as Tucker, and he was informed why he was stopped.

The lieutenant said he asked the driver to get out of the vehicle, and Tucker told him that he had a gun at his feet. Hunnicutt said he secured the gun, and had dispatch confirm the Byron warrants.

A search of the suspect resulted in the discovery of a large amount of cash, $2,240, in his pocket. Hunnicutt said he called for a K-9 officer to come to his location, and the dog alerted on the car.

The lieutenant said he then searched the car, and a black bag was found in the center console. He said a clear plastic bag of multi-colored pills were found in the bag, suspected to be ecstasy, and a clear bag of a green leafy substance thought to be marijuana.

Hunnicutt said more baggies and a digital scale were also found in the car.
