Macon & Robins Bed & Mattress, local bed and mattress stores, are open to help locals find what they need for a good night’s sleep.
The stores have three locations, two in Macon and one in Warner Robins. The Mercer location is located at 3815 Mercer University Drive in Macon, and is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Dawn Simpson, one of the owners, said she’s lived in Macon her entire life, raising her children in the community. She said Macon & Robins Bed & Mattress is invested in the community since they call Macon home. She said her husband, James ‘Derek’ Simpson, is originally from Atlanta, but has lived in Macon for 30 years.
“Macon continues to show their pride in the community through our government officials and our mayor,” she said. “We are doing a lot to improve areas that need some help. There’s lots of construction that is ongoing, and it’s good to see that.
She said they are family owned and operated, and her son has been in the business for almost 19 years. She said her two daughters and a son-in-law work for them as well.
“We opened the business Jan. 1, 2001, so we’ve been in business a little over 21 years. My husband started out first next door in a tiny spot, then we moved into this building and took the whole building. I joined him two years into the business, so I’ve been around for 19 years,” Simpson said.
The owner said her husband worked for another mattress company before, but then the businesses slowly started closing their doors. She said the Macon location was the last to go, but then she encouraged her husband to open up his own bed and mattress business.
“I was winding down a career, and he convinced me to join. We have been very blessed over the years,” the owner said.
“We opened up our location in Warner Robins a few years later, then about three years ago we opened one on Riverside Drive.”
Simpson said her husband has a vast amount of bed and mattress knowledge and experience, and she had a lot of experience with dealing with the public from her other career, so she feels they know what people need for a good night’s sleep. She said they carry all the major mattress brands.
“Everyone needs a mattress, so Macon & Robins Bed & Mattress is important. We work very hard to support our local community with things throughout the year, and we make donations to community causes,” Simpson said.
She said they try to offer the best price they can for their products. She said they offer same day delivery in some cases. They take all major credit cards and offer layaway. The stores also have several options of financing, accept checks, and cash. She said she can’t wait to see everyone come check them out, because they plan to continue to thrive.
“We’re here for the long haul, and we’ll be here long after the sale since we’re invested in Macon,” she said. “We have competitive pricing, and we try very diligently to have the best value for the customer. We know our product very well.”
