Trespassing on the property of a Jones County deputy is but one of three charges a defendant entered guilty pleas for in Superior Court last week.
Kevin Lee Johnson, 41, was in Jones County Superior Court June 23 to enter his pleas for drug possession charges for arrests that took place in Sept. 14, 2021, and May 28. His trespassing arrest also occurred May 28.
Johnson was sentenced to a total of five years on probation for the charges with the first 180 days to serve in confinement.
The charges included possession of methamphetamine, possession of schedule IV controlled substance and criminal trespass and were allowed to run consecutively.
The report of the Sept. 14, 2021, arrest by Jones County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Crystal Murphy stated that she was working on an investigation in Haddock when she observed a man who appeared to be trying to get into a restaurant that was not yet open.
After being questioned by officers, it was discovered he had no identification and the motorcycle in his possession had no plate. A pat down of Johnson revealed a plastic bag containing two pieces of Xanax. A clear plastic bag containing suspected methamphetamine was found in the suspect’s bookbag.
Deputy Kasey Carr stated in his report of Johnson’s May 28 arrest that he was on routine patrol on Gray Highway when he noticed a motorcycle that appeared to be broken down in a turning lane. He said he turned around to go back and found the driver was able to get the motorcycle running. However, he noticed that it had no turn signals, brake lights and the driver used no hand signals when turning onto Old Gray Highway.
Carr said he activated his blue lights and conducted a traffic stop. The officer said the driver identified himself and said he was just test driving the bike. He said a pat down of Johnson revealed a meth pipe in his right pocket and small clear bag of marijuana.
Carr said another plastic bag containing methamphetamine was found in Johnson’s left pocket as well as a bag containing several pills, and he was taken into custody.
The May 28 trespassing arrest report was written by Gray Police Officer Terius Farley. He stated that he responded to a call of a person trespassing on the property of a Jones County deputy. The time of the call was 10 p.m., only hours after he was released from the previous drug arrest. Farley said he spoke to a neighbor who confronted Johnson while on the property because he was looking around the officer’s patrol car and personal vehicle.
The officer said he found the subject and advised him why he needed to talk to him. He said the suspect told him he did not go on the property but only asked if the deputy was at home.
Farley said he then informed Johnson that a witness saw him on the property, and the suspect was taken into custody.
