Jones County is participating in the fourth annual statewide Bible reading marathon on July 14 at 7:14 p.m. on the Jones County Courthouse lawn, reciting the Word of God to the community.
Debra Hall, coordinator for the Jones County reading, said she’s very excited for the reading. She said there will be music before the event for those who show up early.
“We’re very excited for our fourth annual statewide Bible reading marathon. It’s become a national and international movement,” she said. “We have 14 states and 17 countries that are participants at this moment, and others might jump on board, too.”
She said the goal is for the entire Bible to be read that day. She said since the Bible is divided up between each county in each state, Jones County will be reading Leviticus 19 through 25. She said she would like to see a large crowd show up.
“I would like to see people come out and show they are not ashamed of the Lord, and that they believe in the power of the unspoken Word of God. It’s a weapon we can use to fight our battles. God is starting to move around our world. We want to show Him we are doing something to impact all of those around us to make a change,” Hall said.
The coordinator said she would urge people to make it a priority to come. She said they have generations of families come out and read from the Bible. She said the event is for anyone with any denomination. She said this is a great way for anyone who believes in the Lord to get together.
“It’s important that we take a stand. We can come together and very respectfully honor the Lord,” she said. “As we do that, He blesses us, and His blessings affect our community. That’s why people in the county should come to this.”
Hall said people should bring folding chairs to the event, so they can be more comfortable. She said if people want to bring their own Bible to read along with the scripture being read, that would be great. She said if inclement weather occurs, the event will be redirected to First Baptist Church. She said she just wants people in the Jones County community to show up and take everything in.
“We’ve had great attendance in the past. People should come out to show their faith. I’d love to see this be the biggest event in Jones County,” she said. “This event is exciting, and I get to see friends. It’s exciting to do something that will bless the community and the Lord.”
