COMMUNITY EVENTS
A Read Thru the Bible event will take place Oct. 8 through 16 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Carol’s Park gazebo. A special kick-off celebration for the event will be held Oct. 8 at 9 a.m. in the same location. Guests should come prepared to share the Word of God with others in the Jones County/Gray community.
Debra Hall, the event coordinator, said she’s excited for the reading. She said she can’t wait to see people come out and join in the reading. People can bring their own Bible to follow along and read from if they want.
“We call this Word of God Speak, because that’s what we are doing. We are speaking the Word of God, word for word, all the way from Genesis 1:1 to Revelation,” she said. “We ask people to read for about 15 minutes. You bless the Lord when you read from the Bible, and you bless the community as well, because the spoken Word of God never dies.”
She said since the Bible reading is during the Jones County school system’s fall break, she would love for more people to come out and participate as much as possible. She said the event is for everyone of all ages and all denominations.
“This event is probably our favorite, because we get to see so many different people since it lasts so long. It’s nice to see old friends and make new friends. The Word of God is true. God’s Word causes changes,” Hall said.
The coordinator said people in the community should come out to hear and read from the Bible, because it will bless them. She said if people are not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ, they should show up. She said it makes a stand, because the Word of God is powerful.
“I don’t want people to not show up, because they are worried about how they read or how they will pronounce some of the big Bible names,” she said. “Probably the only one who knows how to truly say those names is God. Please don’t let that stop you from coming and being blessed.”
Hall said it’s a nice thing for families to do together, hearing and reading the Bible. She said there’s no reason to dress up for the Read Thru the Bible event. She said people seem to love coming to the event every year, surprising themselves by reading from the Bible.
The coordinator said if people would like to register for a time and day to read from the Bible ahead of time, they can email her at kbomin092@ gmail.com. The time will be reserved for them. She said she can’t wait to see who will decide to read this year.
“There is so much I could say; this is my favorite thing. Spending that much intense time in the presence of the Lord and the presence of His Word is such a blessing,” Hall said. “It just changes you, and it puts a smile on your heart that nobody can erase.”
