JONES COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE
Investigators with the Jones County Sheriff’s Office are seeking the public’s help with information leading to the arrest of an individual who robbed a retail store on Shurling Drive at gunpoint.
A report of the crime by JCSO Deputy Dylan Ashley Joiner states he was dispatched to the Dollar General on Shurling Drive Nov. 18 at approximately 11:25 a.m. in reference to the robbery. He said while en route, he was advised the suspect was armed with a pistol and had fled the scene.
Joiner said Sgt. William Jackson patrolled the area of Howard Avenue across from the store and he patrolled the areas of Bethune Avenue, Troutman Drive and Bethune Downs Court with negative contact.
The officer said he went to the store to speak with the store manager who was the complainant. The manager said the male suspect came into the store and waited for her to get to the register. He then pulled a firearm from his waist and told her he needed money.
The complainant estimated the suspect at approximately 17 years of age.
Joiner said he watched the security camera footage. He said he saw the male subject enter the store and wait toward the front until the manager was able to get to the register. The officer said the manager gave the robber the money, and he left the store.
The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 5’10” in height, wearing a black hoodie, black pants, a Nike gym bag, white shoes and a gray face mask. The manager told Joiner the robber had a pink handgun.
A witness at the scene told Jackson the handgun was a tan Glock-style pistol.
The deputy said JCSO Captain of Investigations Kenny Allen arrived and called Deputy Jason Douglas to the scene to download security camera footage.
In a Nov. 23 interview with Allen, he said officers are following leads, but the robbery remains under investigation. He asked anyone with information to call the Sheriff’s Office at 478-986-3489 or submit the information on the JCSO app.
