Crime Watch

The following information is gleaned from incident reports, which are public record, from the Jones County Sheriff’s Department and Gray Police Department Dec. 10-13, 2022.

Dec. 10

Sgt. Carr was conducting routine patrol near Griswoldville Road when he ran the tag number of a vehicle in front of him to check for valid insurance and registration.

Carr’s in-car computer indicated the registration on the vehicle was suspended.

Carr activated his blue lights and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. When Carr made contact with the driver, he asked for the driver’s license and the driver handed the sergeant an ID card. Dispatch advised Carr that the driver had a suspended license. Carr had the driver exit the vehicle, placed him in handcuffs and transported him to the Jones County LEC where he was issued citations for driving while license suspended and suspended registration.

Dec. 12

Deputy Sullivan was on patrol when he ran the license plate of a vehicle to check for valid registration. The license plate information that came back showed the registered owner had a suspended license. Sullivan fell in behind the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. When the deputy made contact with the driver, the female subject advised him she had a driving permit due to a previous DUI, but she did not know where it was at the time. Sullivan had dispatch to confirm, and they advised her permit had been canceled. At that time, the deputy placed the female driver in handcuffs and transported her to the Jones County LEC where she was given a citation for driving while license suspended and turned over to jail staff for booking.

Dec. 13

Sgt. Little and other units responded to an area of Monticello Highway in reference to a vehicle in a ditch and a male subject attempting to wave down vehicles as they passed. Little made contact with the male subject and noticed he was unsteady on his feet, his eyes were red and watery, and his speech was slurred. Little also detected the odor of alcohol on the male. The male advised Little that a deer ran out in front of him and caused the vehicle to go off the road and in a ditch striking a tree. The male also advised the sergeant that he was not the one driving the vehicle. The male stated the subject driving the vehicle at the time of the accident had left the scene walking afterwards.

Little identified the subject, and he was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.

The subject refused to give a blood sample and was arrested and transported to the Jones County LEC where he was cited for failure to maintain lane, DUI refusal and DUI less safe alcohol.
