Support sought to raise children after tragic loss

LOCAL FAMILY

A GoFundMe page has been set up for the members of a Jones County family who needs help following a series of events beyond their control.

The two children of a suicide victim are the ones paying the consequences for the horrific events that took place March 27. Their stepfather, Troy Scarborough, is headed to prison for 60 years for his role in causing Shyanne Schroeder to pick up a gun and take her own life.

The grandmother of the children, Charlotte Wooster, is doing her best to take care of them, but she needs help. The family is living in a mobile home with a roof that leaks and heating and air conditioning that do not work well.

The older child is a teenager who is dealing with Type 1 diabetes. The youngest is 6 and has cerebral palsy. The grandmother has no income and is attempting to make ends meet each month with the survivor’s benefits the children now receive.

Wooster gave an impact statement in court Dec.

15, the day Scarborough entered his guilty plea to three counts of aggravated assault.

“There is no way to tell how it felt when I got the knock on the door the day my daughter died,” the mother said.

She went on to say that her grandchildren are “beautiful, loving reminders of my daughter.” Wooster said both the children are suffering from anxiety and are in therapy.
