BOYS HOOPS
One of three teams in their region ranked in the top six of the state entering the week, the Greyhounds stayed sharp last week in a step outside of region play. And while non-region games don’t hold water in terms of the hunt for the top of the region, getting all the right elements to click as the season grows later is key.
Jones County showed that off in a big way last Tuesday at Northside. After leading early, the Greyhounds saw the Eagles come back from double digits twice to lead 31-30 at the half. Jones County just had too much talent and depth, pulling further in front in the second half to outscore the opposition

26-8 in the fourth quarter.
Perhaps nothing showcased Jones County’s versatility more than the play of Jaylen Sanford. He rocked the rim twice on Tuesday, going airborne on two highlight-reel quality dunks. One of them came one trip down the floor before he drained a three-pointer as he scored 28 to lead the Greyhounds. Entering Monday, Sanford was averaging 29.5 points in his last four games.
One reason for Sanford’s success against Northside was the Eagles being unable to key on him. That was because of an equally strong outing from Daethan Harris with 21 points complemented by Kaden Douglas and Judd Anderson’s 11.
The break from region play ends Thursday, with games on consecutive nights at Union Grove on Thursday, at home against Locust Grove Friday and Saturday at Northeast. That’ll set the stage for a pair of games the following Tuesday and Friday at home against Eagles Landing and Warner Robins, both ranked among the region’s top four with Eagles Landing unbeaten. With a 3-3 record in the region, JCHS entered the week in a three-way tie for third with Warner Robins and Eagles Landing, so a win against one or both next week would go a long way toward getting a third seed for the region tournament.
