GIRLS HOOPS
A stretch of three games in three nights awaits Jones County’s Lady Greyhounds Thursday, starting with a road game at Union Grove. And if the Lady Hounds are to stay in the hunt for a region title, it will likely be a must-win game.
As the week began, JCHS found itself third in the region with a 4-2 record, one shy of Union Grove’s 5-1 and two behind Warner Robins at 6-0. But with a game next Friday against Warner Robins, wins in both of those contests could possibly move the Lady Hounds into a tie for first.
Jones County kept momentum going toward that key stretch last week with a 74-32 rout of Northside for its 10th win in a row, holding the Eagles to single digits in each quarter. Amaris Ridgeway led Jones County with ten points as Carlie Skinner had 13.
After getting an early edge to lead 14-9 through a quarter, JCHS overwhelmed Northside to the tune of a 20-8 advantage in the second quarter, and it came from long distance. The Lady Hounds drained five threepointers from four players in the second with Autumn Coleman having two and others being added by Carlie Skinner, Aubrey Norris and Mya Epps against an outmatched Northside team. Norris scored seven points, all of which came in the second half.
It helped Jones County lead 34-17 at halftime and the Greyhounds bench being able to rotate in plus converting shots in the paint enabled JCHS to put the game more in its favor with a 59-25 advantage through three, shortening the fourth quarter by two minutes to put the mercy rule in place.
