The Jones County Public Library is showing love and support for the month of February, providing many different programs for the community and showcasing various books for readers to indulge in.
Julie King, the branch manager at the Jones County Public Library, said she’s always excited about the activities they can provide for the community.
She said she’s happy they can help so many in Jones County.
“We have a new book club that’s called Graphic Novel Book Club, and that is on the last Tuesday of the month at 4 p.m.,” she said. “They will be making a comic book. They can check out the book to read, and then they’re going to make their own graphic novel.”
She said they still have Teacher Tuesdays at 4 p.m., where the teachers from Jones County come and read to children. She said Wiggle Worms is still Wednesdays at 10 a.m., where ages zero through five years do activities and other things. She said the first and third Thursdays of every month is Teen Coffee Corner, and the teenagers hang out and discuss things about the library. She said also for the teen program they will be doing nerf gun wars on Feb. 25 at 10 a.m.
The branch manager said they have a lot of fun things going on at the Jones County Public Library this month. She said they are excited about their outdoor library, which she said they plan to start building at the end of March.
“We’re already getting ready for summer reading, and our theme is ‘All Together Now.’ It’s about kindness, empathy and inclusion. Our whole library is going to be turned into Mr.
Roger’s Neighborhood, so we can talk about kindness and sharing. I love the theme, because we want everyone to feel welcome here,” King said.
She said they are already working on everything for summer reading, because there is a lot to get done before then.
She said they have also started a new program for special needs adults called Jones County Masters to give them a community and activities to do. She said the next meeting is Feb. 18.
King said since February is Black History Month, they have been reading books by black authors and about black historical figures while also promoting books around the library for adults and children alike to read on their own.
“We want to bring the entire community together here.
Everyone in the Jones County community is important here, and we want to celebrate the heritage of the community,” the branch manager said. “Black History Month is so important, because we get to do those things, and we love that.”
The branch manager said they had a big craft day Feb. 13 for Valentine’s Day for children to make valentines for their friends and family. She said they all dressed up for Valentine’s Day, and it was a lot of fun.
“I think if you ever come into this library, you will feel the love here,” she said. “We are so happy to see everyone and welcome everyone. This is a place you will feel appreciated and loved.
Not just on Valentine’s Day, but every day.”
