Jones County 4-H attended Cloverleaf District Project Achievement (DPA) on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at Newton County High School in Covington, Georgia. DPA allows students to further explore any area of interest to them, conduct research, and create a presentation on that subject to present to judges at a public speaking competition each year.
The Cloverleaf level competition was for students in 4th-6th grades and Jones County had ten students participate. In the weeks leading up to competition, students worked hard both on their own and at the 4-H office preparing their speeches, PowerPoints, posters, and demonstrations. All of their hard work paid off as their combined efforts earned Jones County 4-H recognition as the county with the highest percentage of winners at the annual competition.
Jones County 4-H would like to thank all of the student’s parents for allowing them to compete at DPA and for all the help they provided in aiding in their student’s preparations and success. 4-H would also like to thank the students who participated for their hard work and determination in so well representing themselves and Jones County 4-H as a whole at competition. Lastly, they would like to extend their gratitude to Jones County schools for helping promote DPA and to their generous donors for funding the event. Student’s names and categories are as follows: Bristol Bailey (Geology-2nd place), Samani Bostic-Henry (Freshwater Fish & Shellfish-2nd place), Patrick Carson (Outdoor Recreation-1st place), SaLauna Harris (Creative Stitchery-1st place), Yareth Hasty (Cat Care-2nd place), Rebekah Helms (Archeology-2nd place), Rhett Renner (General Recreation-1st place), Abigale Shinn (Horse-2nd place), Cayleigh Shinn (Historic Places and Events-5th place), Annabelle Welsher (General Science-3rd place).
The Junior/Senior District Project Achievement competition for 7th-12th grade students will take place in March. If you are interested in your student participating in next year’s Cloverleaf or Junior/Senior District Project Achievement, please call the Jones County Extension Office at (478) 986-3958 to be added to their email listserv to receive event information.
