Events such as Saturday’s Middle Georgia Distance Carnival throw the door open for track and field distance runners to turn in strong showings in the early part of a season. Jones County’s runners seized that chance on Saturday at Warner Robins, including sweeping both the boys and girls varsity 4x800 relays.
The Lady Greyhounds ran a time of 11:38.26 in the finals of the 4x800 with Camryn Wommack, Addison Robinson, Lilly Palmer and Katlin Malone taking first. A time of 9:25.80 gave the Greyhounds the boys 4x800 win with Luke Thornton, Aaron England, Grady Newby and Landon Steinmeyer getting the first-place win.
The Lady Greyhounds won first overall in the event, getting a thirdplace finish from Addison Newby in the 800 meters with a time of 3:08.08.
More dominant was the 1600 meter run with the Lady Hounds taking four of the top six spots, led by Lilly Palmer, Camryn Wommack and Addison Robinson being first, second and third with times of 5:45.06, 5:52.21 and 6:01.52. Coming in fifth was Malone with a time of 6:47.19 and Newby running a 6:55.77 The Greyhounds took the win in the boys distance medley with Tyler Marshall, Austin Sullivan, Kyle Whipple and Shaun Williams running an 11:47.15. Other top finishes for the Greyhounds were RJ Bryant’s fourth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:28.99 and Marshall and Whipple being fourth and fifth in the 1600 meters with times of 4:56.21 and 4:59.18.
