NEXT-LEVEL HOUNDS
Mary Michael Bunn and Keegan Goins may compete in two different sports for Jones County, but they’ll have the same college destination.
Both signed national letter of intent during a joint signing ceremony last week in the JCHS cafeteria with Piedmont College. Bunn inked a scholarship for cheerleading with Goins doing so for golf.
“The word I’d have for Mary Michael is perseverance,” said Meddie Fuller, one of Jones County’s competition cheerleading coaches. “She has stayed at the gym, her mom will tell you, until after 10 p.m. We are so proud of her and can’t wait to see what she will do in college.”
Bunn, who also competes for the Lady Greyhounds in Gymnastics, was part of Jones County’s competition cheerleading squad that placed in the top 10 of the state this past fall.
Goins finished 12th individually at last year’s state golf tournament as the Lady Greyhounds finished seventh as a team.
“I got this job in 2021, and Keegan was a sophomore and already our No. 1 golfer,” Jones County head golf coach Lance Pittman said. “She has always known exactly what she wants to do and needs to work on. She is very smart, has lots of golf IQ and is very driven.”
