Greyhounds lineup getting settled as region play begins

Much remains to be seen for the Greyhounds season as region play has begun, but one area of certainty comes with the on-field lineup for Jones County.

The Greyhounds, who lost 3-0 last Tuesday to Mary Persons, dropped an 8-0 region opener last week to Locust Grove and also hosted Union Grove on Tuesday and plays at Ola on Friday.

With that has come more continuity with Jones County’s on-field lineup, giving the Greyhounds a good idea of who the best fits are within their on-field alignments, something that the coaches hope will aid for chemistry as the season continues.

“Right now, we’re not trying new things. We have an identity as a team, and our mentality to play hard; that does not change,” Greyhounds head coach Will Cowart said. “We know who we are and what we’re trying to do.”

One area of growth? Less experienced players coming into their own such as Jose Saucillo on defense and Dorian Graham upfield.

“We’ve had some guys who played early since day one, they’ve really come into their own and become really capable for us,” Cowart said. “Some of them have stepped up and been really phenomenal.”
