Lady Hounds battling injuries, youth

Youth was a hurdle that the Lady Greyhounds knew that they’d be facing coming into the season, one that began with an 8-0 setback to Locust Grove in last week’s region opener.

More hurdles have been thrown the way of Jones County recently by way of injuries. That became further evident in last Tuesday’s 3-0 non-region loss with the Lady Hounds’ on-field lineup as Taylor Nipper, one of Jones County’s more seasoned scorers from the midfielder position, being called up to play defense.

“We’re just super young. The beginning of the season was kind of a culture shock for how fast the game moves and how quickly it moves for our younger players. It’s been quite a learning curve,” Lady Greyhounds head coach Mikayla Greene said. “We’ve had a ton of injuries and people playing in positions that we didn’t anticipate.”

The Lady Greyhounds, who play Friday at Ola, host Dutchtown next Tuesday and play at Warner Robins March 24.

“They’re working hard; we just have to keep trucking,” Greene said.
