Braucht departs for head coach job, replaced by Conner

FOOTBALL COACHES

The Greyhounds will have at least two new assistant coaches on the sidelines next football season following the departure of defensive coordinator Robert Braucht, who was officially announced as the head coach of North Springs High School, located in Fulton County.

The Spartans compete in the AAAAA classification, and their 4-6 record last year was the program’s best since 2017, also the year of their most recent postseason appearance. Braucht, who also coached Jones County’s inside linebackers, joins offensive line coach Jay Floyd as those having departed in the offseason. Floyd now heads up strength and conditioning for the athletic program at Thomas County Central.

Jones County has lined up replacements for Braucht, with Will Conner being publicly announced Monday as the defensive coordinator. Conner’s most recent position was at Bleckley County, where the Royals defense held the opposition to 14 or fewer points nine times in 13 games last season. The Greyhounds are scheduled to begin spring practice April 19 and host Veterans May 5 for their spring game.
