GREYHOUND TENNIS
When tennis teams compete in the region tournament, a higher seed improves the chances of advancing on to the state level of competition. Both the Greyhounds and Lady Greyhounds took care of that in a pair of matches last week, with the girls sweeping a pair of matches against Dutchtown and Warner Robins and the boys getting a split.
Both teams host GMC Prep on Thursday and close out region play next Tuesday at home against Eagles Landing.
The Lady Greyhounds began last week with the first of two 5-0 sweeps, first against Dutchtown in a home win on Tuesday followed by a win by the same score at Warner Robins.
Anna Hill won 8-0 at No. 1 singles, and that was followed by singles wins from Ciara Stephens and Ashlyn Rowland by scores of 8-4 and 8-2. In doubles play, an 8-2 win in the No. 1 match came from Lyndsie Hanner and Reagan Bowman with an 8-1 victory coming from Mallory Herndon and Chloe Scarborough.
The results were similar against Warner Robins with Hill winning 8-2, Stephens 8-0 and Rowland 8-5.
Hanner and Bowman triumphed 8-3 with an 8-0 doubles win coming by way of Scarborough and Arleigh Henderson.
The Greyhounds dropped a tough 3-2 decision last Tuesday to Dutchtown with singles wins from Roman Hanania and Ethan Hill by scores of 8-2 and 8-4. Jones County bounced back against Warner Robins with Hanania winning 8-0 at No.
1 singles, John Mack Rowland and Wesley Maynard winning 8-1 combined with two forfeit wins and Evan Randall being credited with a win as well for an overall 5-0 victory.
