chil- community. Heather Johnson, Executive Director of the Jones County Chamber of Commerce, said she’s excited for the Easter event. She said it’s a great way for the community to come together to celebrate and families can watch their children enjoy the egg hunt.
“The Jones County Chamber, churches and some local businesses have partnered together to do a big community egg hunt Saturday, March 25 at the Morris Bank Recreation Complex,” she said. “It’s going to be from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. We will have some kids’ performances from Turner Woods Elementary School, Dames Ferry Elementary School and one of the churches. This is a free event.”
She said they plan on having 10,000 eggs at the community event, and they will have four different age groups for the egg hunts. Ages zero to 3 years will have their egg hunt at 9:15 a.m., ages 4 to 6 years will have their egg hunt at 10 a.m., ages 7 to 9 years will have their egg hunt at 10:45 a.m., and ages 10 to 12 years will have their egg hunt at 11:30 a.m. She said in between each egg hunt the children’s performances will take place.
“A lot of the churches and communities have Easter egg hunts around the same day, so we thought this would be a good opportunity for all churches, businesses, nonprofits, and the community to all come together and have one big community egg hunt. This way no one is trying to battle each other. We can all be together and have the families enjoy themselves,” Johnson said.
The director said she expects all of the children in the community to have a lot of fun and go home happy. She said they are giving out a few extra prizes and will have some surprise eggs. She said the eggs will have candy in them.
“It’s going to be a huge event compared to just going to one egg hunt, and it’s going to be good for our community to come together. Come learn about what is going on in our community. It’s free, and it’ll be a lot of fun,” she said.
Johnson said the Easter Bunny will be at the community event this year for photo opportunities. She said her favorite thing about having the Jones County Egg-Stravaganza event is seeing the children have a good time, and at the end of the day she feels that’s what matters most. She said they deserve to have some normalcy again after COVID-19.
“The kids know there is candy in the eggs, but seeing the excitement on their faces when they open up an egg is still rewarding,” Johnson said. “Seeing them run after an egg and play is so much fun, and seeing the surprise on their faces is wonderful to witness. This is all about them. We look forward to the community joining us for the Jones County Egg-Stravaganza.”
