Greyhounds unveil 2023 football schedule

FOOTBALL HOUNDS

Greyhound football fans can go ahead and make their fall plans following the release of next fall’s football schedule.

With no new region alignments this year and most non-region games being on the back end of two-year contracts, the scheduled opponents are similar to a year ago.

Jones County, which scrimmages Veterans May 5 and at Buford on Aug. 11, opens the season Aug. 19 in the Macon Touchdown Club Kickoff Classic at Mercer University against Northside. Three more non-region games follow, two of which will be at home. After hosting Dacula Aug. 25, JCHS goes to Perry Sept. 1 and hosts Peach County and new head coach Marquise Westbrook on Sept. 8.

Of the Greyhounds four non-region opponents, three will have new head coaches with Northside and Dacula joining Peach in the new head coach category.

After that, the opportunity to start region play strong awaits with two games against teams the Greyhounds have never lost to. First is a road trip to Locust Grove on Sept. 15 before an open date. Then comes the meat of the region schedule, starting with hosting Eagles Landing Sept. 29.

Next up? A chance at revenge at Ola on Oct. 6. The Mustangs beat Jones County in Gray last year. Dutchtown, who advanced to the state semifinals last year, comes to Gray Oct. 13 prior to the season’s second open date.

Two more contests close out the regular season, Oct. 27 at Warner Robins and Nov. 4 at home against Union Grove.
