Track teams fire off strong showings at region tune-up

Ahead of the region meet, set for this past Tuesday, the Greyhounds and Lady Greyhounds made last week’s region tune-up meet every sense of the event’s title, taking home nine first-place spots, including a sweep of both the boys and girls 100 meter events.

Mya Anderson led the Lady Hounds in their event, running a 26.74 while in the boys 100 and 200 meters, Zion Ragins and Tyler Stewart ran one-two in both events, Ragins time being a blistering 10.65 while in the 200 meters, Ragins took first with a 21.92, ahead of Stewart’s 22.50. The Lady Hounds showcased prowess in the distance events, sweeping the 1,600-meter run’s top two spots. Lilly Palmer took first in the 1,600 with a time of 5:43.09, in front of Camryn Womack’s 5:51.61 in the 3,200. Addison Robinson gave the Lady Hounds the win in the 800 meters with a time of 2:37.56.

Not to be outdone, Kyle Whipple was fourth in the 400 meters with a time of 52:08, Austin Sullivan and Tyler Marshall’s times of 4:46.35 and 4:48.68 were second and third in the 1600 meters with Gavin Robinson running an 11:15.97 in the 3.200 meters.

The Lady Hounds, who were third in the 4x100 relay, rounded out their day with second place finishes by Mya Anderson in the long jump and Shania Bryant in the shot put. A pair of firstplace showings came the way of Jones County in field events with Ethan Butts winning both the discus and shot put. Austin Hanks was also third in the discus.

Jones County was also first in the 4x400 and 4x800 relays with times of 3:41.11 and 8:46.42 to go with a finish of third in the 4x200 timing in at 51.77.
