OL Coach Brinson easing into role with Greyhounds

FOOTBALL COACH

The Greyhounds scrimmage on Friday will also be the first time coaching in front of the Greyhound Stadium crowd on Friday nights for multiple new Greyhound coaches.

Daniel Brinson is among them. He arrived in Gray during February. Brinson, who played for Rush Probst at Colquitt County, comes to the Greyhounds after being on staff at Lowndes. Suffice it to say, he knows a great bit about environments where football carries a heavy weight of importance to a community.

“It’s awesome,” Brinson said of coaching at JCHS. “If you are at a place with no expectations, you’re at the wrong place.

This place has tons of expectations, and I’m excited to see us meet them.”

Brinson says that it helps that there was a bit of cushion prior to spring practice.

As a result, some foundation was laid in the past few months.

“It’s been a good transition,” Brinson said. “I’ve been pleased with everything.

These kids are awesome and really coachable. If you tell them to run through a wall, they will.”

That group includes a pair with experience in their corner, Derrick Cleveland and Will Agudelo, who are set to lock down tackle positions with additional experience in hand via Austin Hanks, part of a unit that Brinson says has inspired confidence as a whole so far.

“We’re just pleased with all five of them,” Brinson said. “I think we can play seven or eight. We have good quality depth. The experience is tremendous.

You never know how someone will do on Friday nights until they get out there, so experience is key.”
