Students at Gray Elementary School participated in the Kids Heart Challenge (KHC) through the American Heart Association (AHA). During KHC, students learned about heart healthy activities like getting enough sleep, eating healthy foods, drinking plenty of water, and participating in heart healthy physical activities like basketball.
Students also practiced taking their pulse during basketball to see if they were getting moderate to vigorous physical activity. Students know that moderate physical activity means your pulse feels “steady like a bouncing ball” and vigorous physical activity feels like it is “popping like popcorn.”
We would like to thank the PEDancer (YouTube handle) for teaching us that.
Students also learned about 2 Hand CPR and the most common signs of a stroke. In both emergency situations, students learned that calling 911 was the most important thing to do.
Students also learned how to bypass security codes on cell phones to make a 911 call.
In total, GES raised $4,280 for the American Heart Association and their mission to help hearts everywhere. Our top fundraiser was Henry Anuszczyk in Sheri Moore’s first grade class.
Henry raised $1,000.
Other top fundraisers included Aiden Allen $270, Julia Morris $251, Bradley Arnold $227, Beau Briley $200, Caleb Briley $200, Mackenzie Smith $168, Delaina Hall $152, Parker O’Gorman $127, Michael Farmer $127, Trycen Allen $126, Tenley Fountain $121, MaKayla Farmer $117, and Caleb Harper $100.
Thank you to everyone for participating in Kids Heart Challenge this year.
