TRACK & FIELD
JCHS track and field athletes have not only wrapped up their season with top finishes against region competition and beyond but with recent all-region selections, as well. A total of three were first-team selections, led by Zion Ragins in the 100 and 200 meters. Ragins would go on to finish second in the state in both events.
The presence of Jones County in distance events was also shown with the Lady Hounds’ Lilly Palmer being a firstteam selection in the 3,200 and 1,600 meters with Wommack also being a 1600-meter selection. In the boys’ 3,200 meters, Tyler Marshall, Austin Sullivan and Luke Thornton were second-team selections. Addison Robinson collected three second-team all-region selections, doing so in the girls’ 800, 1,600 and 3,200 meters with Wommack also being a selection to the second team in the 3,200 meters.
Added onto the second-team selections for the Greyhounds were Tyler Stewart in the 100 and 200 meters and Shakiya Betha in the girls 100 meters.
Though not nominated for all-region, Austin Hanks had a record-breaking track season, setting a school record and personal best in the discus.
