SUPERIOR COURT
Word should soon get out that driving a stolen car into Jones County is not going to go unnoticed.
Bryan Shaw, 25, of Americus, was arrested May 16 and charged with possession of a firearm or knife during commission or attempt to commit certain felonies, possession of controlled substance with intent to distribute and felony theft by receiving stolen property.
He is currently being held without bond.
A report of his arrest by Jones County Sheriff’s Department Travis Walker states that he was on patrol on Highway 49 when he received an alert from the Flock camera on Griswoldville Road about a stolen red Honda CRV in the area.
Walker said he located the vehicle parked beside a mobile home on North Robbie Drive and called for backup. The officer said he watched the stolen vehicle until deputies Jeffrey Robinson and Nolan Sullivan arrived.
Walker said they approached the Honda to check for occupants and noticed a firearm under the radio in an open compartment. He said there was also a ballistic vest on the back seat.
At this point, the sergeant said he did not know if the vehicle’s occupants were inside the home of had fled on foot.
The officers knocked on the side of the house and announced their presence. He said when a white male came to the door, he was ordered to come outside and was checked for weapons.
Walker said the subject was identified as Bryan Shaw.
The man admitted to driving the Honda but said he was given the keys by the owner. Walker said he had dispatch check with the agency that reported the car stolen and verified the report.
The sergeant said a subsequent inventory of the vehicle discovered a large quantity of methamphetamine located under the driver’s seat inside of a black bag along with a scale. He said a very large knife was found on the seat. Walker said the knife and the previously secured firearm were taken into evidence.
Shaw was transported to the Jones County Law Enforcement Center, and warrants were secured for his arrest.
