Roberts Propane, a propane company that has been in Milledgeville for years, is still available in the area to help serve customers with all of their propane needs.
The business is located at 149 Garrett Way Northwest in Milledgeville, and is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
John James, the manager of Roberts Propane, said even though he’s not originally from Milledgeville, he still likes the area a lot. He said people are really nice and the traffic is a lot better. He said it’s a good place to live.
“I’m from Atlanta but have been in the area for about 10 years now. We have a house on Lake Sinclair,” he said. “I was born and raised in Atlanta, but it’s changed. It’s nice to get away from the hustle and bustle.”
He said he’s been in the propane business for only a little while, but he’s been around many different types of companies throughout the years. He said the propane business has a lot of specifics, and the learning process continues for a long time.
“Roberts Propane was started by the Roberts family, and they created a really good business. When the time came to retire, it was purchased by the new owners, and I’m pretty new to help run the business. We distribute propane to residential, commercial and educational buildings,” James said.
The manager said they do many different services, such as propane distribution, cylinder filling, they have propane forklifts for heavier cylinders, and different appliances such as water heaters and gas logs.
“The longevity of Roberts Propane is what makes us important for the community. We are part of the fabric of Milledgeville,” the manager said. “Even though it’s changed hands, it’s been here a long time. We’re always trying to improve the technology of the business, but other than that we are still doing the same things and continue to create happy customers.”
James said they serve Hancock County, Putnam County, Jones County, Baldwin County, Wilkinson County, Greene County, Jasper County, Washington County, and Morgan County.
He said he sees himself at Roberts Propane for years, and he doesn’t plan to go anywhere. He said he really enjoys what he does. The manager said people should choose Roberts Propane for their propane needs, because they try to go out of their way to do a better job than others. He said the details matter to them, and they try to be a little better.
“Most customers seem happy, and we strive to make them happy,” James said. “We won’t always make everyone happy, but I think we’ve done good by having a bigger company. We want people to understand the benefits of what we can offer that smaller companies can’t do. We try to do a little better than other companies.”
