Main Street Gray is hosting a farmers market every two weeks in downtown Gray, and the first event will be on June 24, offering fresh vegetables, meat and other items for people to purchase from local farmers in the community.
Ashley Roberson, Main Street Gray Director, said she’s excited for the farmers market and what it will bring to the community of Gray.
“We are doing the Main Street Gray Farmers Market the second and fourth Saturday of each month from 8:30 a.m. until 12 p.m.,” she said. “We’re going to set it up around the Main Street Station. I want it to be close to the road, so people will see it. We have about 12 farmers signed up right now.”
She said the farmers will be selling things such as baked goods, meat, vegetables, eggs, honey, seasonings, and more. She said she is still getting applications from farmers/vendors, so she wants to continue to grow the farmers market and continue doing it through August right now.
“This is the first time we are doing a farmers market, so since it’s new we are playing it by ear right now. We want to see what works best, but we are excited for it. We think this will be something the Jones County community will enjoy,” Roberson said.
The director said she wanted to do a farmers market, because other main streets have done them throughout Georgia and they were successful. She said she feels it will be good for Gray and businesses in Gray, because people can go to the farmers market, then visit the local shops that are downtown.
“We have so many local farmers that do so much, and we don’t think of them. We don’t have a farmers market in Gray, so this will be good for Gray,” the director said. “I want to showcase some of the farmers we have right here in our community people don’t know about. The farmers don’t have to leave Gray to sell their things with this farmers market.”
Roberson said people should visit the Main Street Gray Farmers Market to support the local farmers and get some fresh vegetables and other things. She said she’s gotten a lot of great feedback so far about the farmers market, so she said she feels people are going to enjoy it.
“I’m excited for the fresh meat, since we have someone doing beef and pork. I feel doing this every two weeks will be good, because that’s about the time you need to go grocery shopping again,” she said. “This is going to be something new and exciting.”
