The following information is gleaned from incident reports, which are public record, from the Jones County Sheriff’s Department and Gray Police Department June 12-22, 2023.
June 12
Stolen pistol was towed and the driver was issued citations for no insurance, suspended registration and improper tag display. The driver walked home since it was a short distance.
June 22
Deputy Johnson was dispatched to Wimbledon Lane in reference to a possible theft. Upon arrival, Johnson made contact with the complainant who advised that his pistol was missing from the center console of his vehicle. The serial number was given for the pistol and entered on GCIC as stolen. The case was turned over to investigations.
his LPR system alerted to a vehicle showing no insurance and suspended registration. Carr ran the information through GCIC/ NCIC and confirmed the status of the vehicle. At that time, he conducted a traffic stop. Carr made contact with the driver and was given the reason for the stop.
The driver identified herself and confirmed the vehicle did not have insurance on it. Dispatch alerted Carr that the driver’s license status was suspended all.
Carr had the driver exit the vehicle and Sgt. Johnson secured her in handcuffs. Johnson transported her to the Jones County LEC. The vehicle was towed. The driver was issued citations for suspended registration, no insurance and suspended license. She was turned over to jail staff for booking.
June 15
Failure to move over
Trying to get home with no tag lights Deputy Sullivan was monitoring traffic in the area of Gray Highway and Greenwood Road and observed a vehicle with no tag lights. A traffic stop was initiated and Sullivan made contact with the driver. The driver state he did not know his tag lights were out and advised he was trying to get home. Sullivan then asked the driver if he had any marijuana in the vehicle due to the smell of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. The driver state he smoked earlier, but there was none in the vehicle. Sullivan ran the driver’s license through dispatch and was advised that his license was suspended. The driver was then placed in handcuffs and advised he was under arrest for driving on a suspended license. A family member arrived and took custody of the vehicle. The driver was transported to the Jones County LEC and was issued citations for tag light requirements and suspended license.
June 19
Improper tag display Deputy Caldwell conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Gray Highway for failing to move over for two Gray Police officers and Caldwell. He made contact with the driver and informed her of the reason for the stop and asked for her driver’s license. After running the driver’s license, Caldwell learned she was suspended for failure to appear. The driver was informed of her license status and placed under arrest and transported to the jail by Officer Josey. The vehicle was towed. The driver was given citations for a suspended license and move over law.
Suspended driver’s license, registration and no insurance Sgt. Carr was on routine patrol on Gray Highway when Deputy Sullivan was patrolling Upper River Road when the flock camera alerted on a vehicle.
Sullivan checked the tag number and learned that the vehicle had no insurance and the tag was canceled. He conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver. The driver gave Sullivan an insurance card that was expired.
