Central Baptist hosts yard sale for Jones Countians in need

COMMUNITY SUPPORT

Central Baptist Church in Gray is having a yard sale Saturday, July 15, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for people in Jones County who are in need, providing various items to those in the community who are struggling to afford essentials they need in their home.

The church is located at 3201 Graham Rd. in Gray. Carolyn Hitt, a member of Central Sisters, said she can’t wait to see people at the sale and getting the items they need.

“We are doing a yard sale giveaway for people who need a hand up for things for their kids for school or need household goods,” she said. “We are offering this by being sponsored by Central Sisters, which is a ladies group at the church. We are doing ten free items, then everything after that is $1.”

She said they have everything available from household goods, women’s clothing, men’s clothing, house decor, furniture, suitcases, kitchen items, seasonal items, children’s clothing, shoes, purses, and more.

“We want to thank all of those people who have donated. They have been generous to donate for this. We did this event last year and it was a lot of work, but we had families who really needed some of these items,” Hitt said.

The Central Sister said the event is inside Central Baptist Church in the air conditioning, not outside on the lawn. She said she enjoyed doing the event and helping families last year, and she feels this is a good thing for some people in Jones County.

Rosie Deal, another member of Central Sisters, said it’s important for people in Jones County to get the help they need, and she hopes they come to God along the way. She said people enjoyed the sale last year quite a bit.

“Some people need a helping hand, because of the economy. This will relieve some of the stress off of these families,” Deal said. “Everything is very expensive, especially with children starting back to school soon.”

Hitt said they will do the sale again next year, but they aren’t sure when yet. She said she’d love for people to come to church at Central Baptist Church. She said Sunday school begins at 9:45 a.m., and service starts at 11 a.m. She said Greg Thompson is the pastor of Central Baptist Church. She said even if people decide not to join them at Central Baptist Church she wants them to get what they need from the sale.

“We’ve been bringing in items since March and April, so we have a lot,” the Central Sister member said. “We definitely want people to come out and see what they can get if they really need clothes or anything for their home. We’re supposed to help people like this, because this is what God wants us to do. Please come see what we have.”
